How To Rename A Font In Windows 10

How to rename a fonts name

December 14, 2012 at 00:52

Does anyone know of a freeware program that will permit you rename a fonts name every bit it appears in a program. NOT the file proper noun.
So that instead of seeing 'Cheeseburger' equally a font proper name, I desire to rename it to 'Assuming-Cheeseburger', or 'Hand-Burst My Bubble', or 'Script-CaflischScript'.
What way when sorted alphabetically, like fonts volition be listed together.
Im using Win 7 & Win XP with MS Publisher.
Thanks

Dion.H, if you oasis't installed a font notwithstanding, you tin can just right-click -> rename the file. If you want to rename fonts that have already been installed, that's trickier, but not impossible. NEVER rename a font in your installed fonts binder, it will exist corrupted in the process. What you can practise is open a Search Window, and browse for the directory C:\Windows*\Fonts, (*or whatever the name is for your operating arrangement folder), and don't specify whatsoever file name or type, but the search location. The results should list all of your installed fonts. For the ones you desire to rename, re-create the files from the search results, and paste them into another folder. Rename the files, delete the copies that are currently installed, so cut/paste the renamed versions back into your installed fonts folder to reinstall them.

There are a few fonts y'all can't change in this fashion. Tahoma, with Windows XP, is the standard display font, and then it tin can't be uninstalled fifty-fifty momentarily. I don't know if you lot have a different display font for Windows 7, but if you do, y'all wouldn't be able to change it, either. You likewise won't be able to rename Microsoft Sans Serif, or the font currently selected in Notepad. As far as I know, you should be able to rename any others.

Now, if what yous want to practice is change the font name, not the file name, that tin can likewise be done, but I'm non going to tell yous how.

Dion H, font designers don't desire to let you exercise this to their fonts. What you desire to do has been abused many times in the past, where someone takes an existing font, changes only its name and the copyright data, then tries to pass information technology off equally an original work, or recreation. When fonts accept multiple weights, (bold, italic, assuming italic, light, blackness, etc.), and were properly fabricated, the font will appear only once in the installed fonts listing for the app you're using, and the not Regular weights are accessed through the formatting tools. So, the answer to the question 'is there a freeware app that does this kind of renaming in a batch?' is No, it'south a complex process in which each font would have to exist renamed separately, and other things would have to exist done, besides. Other designers would accept my head if I gave yous instructions on how to practice it. It would be like if a Magician told the public how card and disappearing coin tricks work. If you need to know how to do it, you'll already know how.

metaphasebrothel - I accept this exact situation and the reason I need to rename the font is that I accept downloaded 2 unlike fonts that have been given identical names... meaning I cannot use both.

I have to say thank yous for your informative bolded answer that helps me to resolve the outcome.
Oh wait, no it doesn't.

Earlier designers come for your caput, perhaps you should tell them to design things properly.

I utilised a shareware tool "Typograf" to rename one of the fonts and resolve my effect.

Typograf, an oldish program but still one of the best font managers around.

Hi guys.

I have downloaded about 70 fonts and in gild to have it sorted in Photoshop I need to somehow modify names of all new fonts.
For instance put "!" grapheme at the begining of the name.

At present, doing that font by font using Typograf is a bit time consuming.

Do you know any software that can do the trick in batch mode?

Why would anyone want to brand life harder by messing upward the alphabetic order?

Sep 07, 2014 at 14:43

Imagine that: you have 2000 fonts already installed, you download 50 new and y'all want to test only them.
Will y'all browse through 2050 fonts to discover only those you need at the moment?

O_o

what about using a font manager instead of renaming fonts ?
i'm non sure yous need 2050 dissimilar fonts for a unmarried projection...

Yes, daaams, thank you. I got to the same conclusion.

Sep 07, 2014 at 23:fifteen

daaams, wasn't the question about renaming the font'due south proper noun, not about renaming the file name?

I apply Font Monster for Windows iii.1, in Windows XP in a virtual machine. Information technology can change the font name, family name, and some other properties without changing the rest of the font. Every bit a Windows three.x application, it tin can't navigate folders or open fonts with more than 8 characters in the proper name (or iii in the extension), only information technology'due south worth the attempt. Unfortunately the vendor disappeared long agone, so you can't register the app and get the additional features of the registered version, but the unregistered version tin can change names and salvage files. I take not had whatever luck trying to run Font Monster in Wine in Bone X.

I had iv fonts that should have been in one family unit merely were named so that regular and italic were in i family and the bold equivalents were in another. I used ttx to change the family unit names in the bold fonts but then Font Book complained that the POST table was unusable, don't use these fonts. So I fired up Windows XP in VirtualBox, started Font Monster, changed the file names and copied the files to an accessible folder, opened the files in Font Monster, inverse the names (2 places), saved the files, moved them back, renamed the files (not actually necessary), installed the fonts, no complaints from Font Book.

Font Monster is available from Vetusware at http://vetusware.com/download/Font%20Monster%203.5/?id=10581

Here'southward some freeware you lot could use - Skyoptin Complimentary Font Renamer. Since I don't employ information technology, and I but came across information technology on the web, I know a lot about information technology, but I don't think it supports OpenType.

To exist perfectly honest, I don't even know if this is a program to rename internal typeface names or external typeface file names, but you could requite it a go. Hither'due south the link - http://www.styopkin.com/free_font_renamer.html

Hope this helps,

Skyoptin Complimentary Font Renamer is not an respond to the question. Hither'southward what information technology says: "Got a font collection? Got a collection, but no lodge in it? Start by giving font files the names respective to the full font names. For example, you lot can rename MLON_I.TTF to Milion Italic.ttf." It's a Windows app that automatically renames the font files in a folder to friction match the internal font proper name. It doesn't change the internal font proper name.

Jeez, i just wanted to seperate a font family unit so the total font collection could be seen in paint.net.
Also, open up siurce fonts.
